This powerful quote by Margaret Mead gets to the heart of EcoChallenge. We believe the solution to the planet’s biggest challenges lies in the power of collective action. By taking action in our own lives and inspiring the people around us, each of us contributes to a world of impact—and we have the numbers to prove it.
Last year’s EcoChallenge participants racked up some pretty impressive numbers. EcoChallengers diverted 93,552 plastic bottles and cups from the landfill, conserved 441,676 gallons of water, traveled 80,082 miles by alternative transportation, made over 900 phone calls to public officials advocating change, and volunteered over 2,446 hours in our communities. Wow! Whether you choose actions to curb emissions, save water, spend more time outdoors, generate less waste —or you create your own challenge—you’ll be making a world of difference by participating in the EcoChallenge.
However, the EcoChallenge isn’t just about taking on new habits; it’s also about celebrating positive actions we already do. We’d love to learn from you and hear your tips for living more sustainably and intentionally. Maybe you have a creative way or helpful trick for reducing packaging or waste at the grocery store? What about suggestions for being mindful and present during the day, particularly when stress hits? Too much screentime is a common theme for many of us – how do you motivate yourself to step away?
Throughout EcoChallenge, we’ll share some of your ideas on Facebook or on our other social networks, so make sure you’re following us. We encourage you to visit our page to continue the dialogue – and see what other people are saying. And if you haven’t yet, join us for EcoChallenge 2017!
