Sustain-A-Thon

Sustain-A-Thon Fundraising and Awareness Raising Event

Inspiring people to take responsibility for Earth.

What better way to meet NWEI’s mission than through example.

What better group to set that example than members of our own NWEI volunteer community!

And what better way to illustrate their accomplishments than through a first ever, soon to be annual NWEI SUSTAIN-A-THON!!!

What is a Sustain-A-Thon?  Just like a walk-a-thon or read-a-thon, supporters make financial pledges based on how close the volunteer they are supporting gets to a set goal.  Funds from this event are tax-deductible and will further NWEI’s effort to build awareness of the relationship between human action and the health of natural systems that sustain life - important work that supports the cultural shift to a more enriching, less consumptive society where Earth continues  to provide for our material wants and needs without compromising the very systems that sustain us.

Recently, 30 NWEI volunteers chose from a list of challenges.  These challenges reflect simple changes to daily routines that lead to less consumptive, more sustainable lives.  Each volunteer will determine a base measurement for the challenge they have chosen.  Based on this measurement, each volunteer will state a goal they plan to achieve over a two week period.  Volunteers will take pledges from supporters based on the increments (gallons, kilowatthours, etc.) they save over during this period.

Then, starting Sunday, September 28th, each of the 30 volunteers will take intentional steps to meet their chosen challenge.  On Saturday, October 11th the volunteers will measure their savings in both resources and dollars.  Their results will be posted right here on the Sustain-A-Thon page.
