Oil and Our Lifestyles - A Month of Action

To commemorate the Gulf Coast oil spill on April 20th and Earth Day on April 22nd, the Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI) is launching Oil and our Lifestyles: A Month of Action.

Please join us and others in making the month of April a chance to identify steps each of us can take to reduce fossil fuel use in our own lives and to consider what our response to last year's spill has been and could be.  One year later, how have we changed or failed to change?  How are we shifting our own lifestyles and perspectives?

Here is what you can do to participate:

As part of this month-long commitment to reflection and action, NWEI is excited to offer you a new resource, Just Below the Surface: Perspectives on the Gulf Coast Oil Spill. This one-session guide explores the connections between the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, energy policies, and our personal lifestyles choices.

The goal of the one session course is not to assign blame for this devastating event, but to be empowered - to move from a place of reaction to intentional and thoughtful action.

Just Below the Surface is designed to engage participants - whether students, teachers, administrators, faith community members or concerned citizens - in a process that encourages peer to peer learning, community building, and shared discovery and dialog.

Here is to a more sustainable future!   Please contact us with ideas or to let us know what actions you are choosing to take in April and beyond.
