Centers of Faith

NWEI courses have been used in faith communities throughout North America as part of Fall and Spring Educational offerings.  With the growing understanding of the urgent need for ecological justice, Northwest Earth Institute study guides offer valuable insights and resources for congregations and communities of faith wishing to deepen in practices of creation care.

Faith Community Courses:

What people are saying

"I had the pleasure of observing an NWEI course on Choices for Sustainable Living at First United Methodist Church in Conway, Arkansas. Participants listened to each other, offered their ideas, and eagerly looked forward to the next time they could meet. I think the pedagogical model of the NWEI courses is outstanding because it encourages the kind of values transformation that happens in small groups where members can be confessional, personal, and hopeful. For many of us in the faith community, we already experience this model in spiritual formation groups, and now we can begin to see it at work transforming individuals and communities to a new awareness of the fragility of God’s creation and our responsibility to tend the garden. The newest curriculum, Global Warming: Changing Co2urse, follows the same model and is very appropriate for a 4-week study session in a church school or any small group - including youth. I plan to introduce all the congregations with whom I work to these resources from the Northwest Earth Institute."

"As Board Chair of the Unitarian Universalist Ministry for Earth, I have had the pleasure of working NWEI for several years.  Our Green Sanctuary Certification program incorporates adult education, as well as worship, child education, and sustainable building practices.  Numerous UU congregations use NWEI group materials as part of their "greening' congregations practice, so much so that we are devoting a workshop to NWEI materials and their uses in congregations at our 2007 UUA General Assembly. I believe that the NWEI curriculum would fit well into any congregation wishing to deepen their thinking on issues of earth ministry.
